High Bisque Competition 2024
The Annual High Bisque AC tournament was held at Southwick on 31st August. The event is for inexperienced, new or improving players of AC. There were 12 entries this summer and each person played 4 games of 14 points each game with bisques to a base of 8. The 1st round of matches are assisted by coaches, and then the players can ask for advice about tactics and the laws. This works well with beginners and gives them confidence. The results after the 4 rounds were very close but the top 2 players had 3 wins each and so effectively played a final. This was between Caroline Barnard of Reigate and Mark Gardner from Canterbury. Both players were cautious and felt the pressure but in the end Mark triumphed, +1 on time! So he was the winner of the High Bisque Salver presented by Club Chairman, Clive Hayton. He had a handicap change as well going down from 16 to 14. Congratulations to Mark and all the players. The day was very hot so I thank everyone for keeping going and remaining cheerful!
Grateful thanks to Chrissy Merrington for organising and coaching, and our reliable Katharine Minchin for her coaching and advice.
Try short croquet this autumn, and you may be in the competition next year!
